AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT Release Date and Specs

AMD is scheduled to launch its next-gen Radeon RX 8000 series graphics cards in the second half of this year. We expect the first official details regarding these GPUs at Computex in June. We already covered the (alleged) specifications of the RX 8600 XT and 8700 XT, while the RX 8900 XTX has supposedly been canceled. This leaves the RX 8800 XT. According to rumors, it will leverage the RDNA 3 architecture (or 3.5) with similar core specifications as Navi 31.

What’s unclear is whether this die will feature a modular design like its predecessor or switch to a monolithic design with on-die memory controllers. It may be fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm (N4) node or retain the 5nm process leveraged by the RDNA 3 family. The RX 8800 XT will feature GDDR6 memory paired with a 256-bit (or higher) bus, while the shader count should remain the same as Navi 31.

The GPU core clocks will be ramped up to 3GHz or higher. Being an RDNA 3 derivative, don’t expect any notable improvements in ray tracing performance or cache hierarchy changes. Here’s a rough list of the Radeon RX 8800 XT specifications:

  • GPU: Radeon RX 8800 XT.
  • Work Group Processor/Dual Compute Units: 42.
  • Compute Units: 84.
  • RT Cores: 84.
  • Shaders/Cores/Stream Processors: 5376.
  • L3 Cache: 80MB.
  • ROPs/RB+: 192.
  • TMUs: 336.
  • Bus width: 256-bit.
  • Memory: 16GB?
  • TBP: 300W?

AMD’s Radeon GPUs run particuarly well in recent titles. Will the Radeon RX 8800 XT deliver similar performance to the RTX 4080 in Horizon Forbidden West and Helldivers 2. Check out our optimization guides at PC Optimized Settings!
