NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 Ti Gaming Benchmark

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti was discontinued following the launch of the RTX 4070 Super and the 4070 Ti Super. However, stocks have persisted and the Ti can be had for as low as $669. Meanwhile, the RTX 4070 Super has dropped to $579, down from its launch price of $599. The two GPUs look similar, but which one is better for gaming? Let’s find out.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti vs 4080: Specifications

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti leverages the AD104 die, the same as the RTX 4070 Super. The RTX 4070 Ti offers 12GB of VRAM, as does the 4070 Super. The 70-class Ti GPU has a bus width of 192-bit, backed by 48MB of L2 cache, identical to the Super. The only difference between the two arises in shader count. The RTX 4070 Ti packs 7680 shaders and 60 RT Cores, up from 7168 shaders and 56 RT Cores on the RTX 4070 Super.

Even after the latest discounts and promo codes, there’s a $90 price delta between the 4070 Ti ($669) and the 4070 Super ($579).

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K.
  • Cooler: Lian Li Galahad 360.
  • Memory: 16GB DDR5 x2 @ 6,000MT/s CL30.
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM1000e.

Test Methodology

  • We tested the GeForce RTX 4070 Super and the RTX 4070 Ti (Founders Edition) alongside the Intel Core i9-13900K with 32GB DDR5 memory.
  • Eleven games were tested at 1440p and 4K using the highest-quality graphics preset, followed by ray-tracing benchmarks at 1440p native.
  • The performance is measured using the average FPS and 1% lows. The latter represents a figure higher than the lowest 1% frame rates. It’s used to gauge the performance in resource-intensive scenarios.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

In “A Plague Tale: Requiem,” the GeForce RTX 4070 Super and 4070 Ti are less than a handful of FPS apart, with 1% lows of 60 FPS and 64 FPS, respectively.

Assassins Creed: Valhalla

Assassins Creed: Valhalla runs slightly better on the RTX 4070 Ti, averaging 193.6 FPS at 1440p Ultra, versus 128 FPS on the 4070 Super.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 exhibits similar behavior, running 10% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than the 4070 Super.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 performs similarly on the two cards, averaging 142 FPS on the Ti and 136 FPS on the Super.

F1 2022

F1 2022 runs substantially faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than the 4070 Super at 1440p. The former averages 224 FPS, up from 194 FPS on the 4070 Super.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire: Tokyo is another game that prefers the 4070 Ti over the 4070 Super. It posts an average of 160 FPS on the latter, compared to 189 FPS (+18%) on the former.

Hitman 3

Hitman 3 is an outlier, producing a higher average on the RTX 4070 Super, but better lows on the 4070 Ti. This is a tie.

Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy performs best with 16GB of graphics memory at higher resolutions. Regardless, these 12GB cards deliver close to 110 FPS at 1440p “Ultra.”

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider runs slightly faster on the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, averaging 213 FPS at 1440p versus 196.5 FPS on the 4070 Super.

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol performs similarly on the two 70-class cards, with averages of over 100 FPS but lows of 40+ FPS only.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is 17% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than on the 4070 Super, with averages of 152 FPS and 129.7 FPS, respectively.

Average 1440p Gaming Performance

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is 9% faster than the RTX 4070 Super at 1440p. Across our 11-game benchmark suite, the 4070 Ti averaged 148.73 FPS versus 136.36 FPS on the 4070 Super. This is a nominal performance deficit between the two GPUs considering the $100 price difference.

The Conclusion: For 1440p gamers, the GeForce RTX 4070 Super is the better option, delivering solid 1440p performance for less than $600.

NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 Ti: 4K Gaming Benchmarks

Switching to 4K doubles the pixel count, from <4 million at 1440p to 8.3 million. The higher memory bandwidth of the RTX 4080 is instrumental as the memory usage gets higher and higher. The L2 cache acts as a backup, servicing the L1 misses and reducing the load on the memory bus.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale Requiem delivers similar performance on the RTX 4070 Super and the 4070 Ti, a smidge over 40 FPS, demanding you use DLSS. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is the same with averages of 72.5 FPS and 78 FPS on the Super and Ti, respectively.

Cyberpunk 2077 is 27% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than on the 4070 Super, averaging less than 50 FPS on both cards. Dying Light and F1, however, perform nearly the same on the two GPUs.

Ghostwire Tokyo is a smidge faster on the RTX 4070 Ti, with averages of 75 FPS and 69.6 FPS on the Ti and 4070 Super, respectively.

Hitman 3 is 12% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti, averaging over 100 FPS on both GPUs at 4K “Ultra.”

The remaining four titles deliver similar numbers on the two GPUs, with performance deltas of less than 5% between the two.

Average 4K Gaming Performance

The performance deficit between the RTX 4070 Super and the 4070 Ti is even smaller at 4K. The 70-class GPUs average within 5 FPS of one another, with a lead of 7% for the Ti.

Ray tracing is taxing on the CPU and the GPU, increasing the register and cache usage for BVH generation. We tested the following games in ray-tracing at 1440p native, without any upscaling or frame generation.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale: Requiem leverages ray-traced shadows. It performs the same on the RTX 4070 Super and the 4070 Ti, averaging 50 FPS.

Cyberpunk 2077

Crysis Remastered

Dying Light 2

Cyberpunk 2077, Crysis, and Dying Light 2 aren’t any different with near-identical frame rates on the RTX 4070 Super and 4070 Ti.

F1 2022

Hitman 3

F1 2022, Hitman 3, and Ghostwire: Tokyo produce moderately higher frame rates on the RTX 4070 Ti than on the 4070 Super. We’re looking at deltas of 10-20% on average.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Metro Exodus and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are slightly faster on the RTX 4070 Ti, with averages of 68.5 FPS and 140 FPS, respectively.

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol performs the same on the R`TX 4070 Super and the 4070 Ti Super, with averages of 86 FPS, with the lows dropping below 60 FPS.

Average Ray Tracing Performance

Ray tracing produces the largest lead for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti over the 4070 Super. Across our 11-game benchmark suite, the RTX 4070 Ti averages 88.14 FPS, 18% higher than the 74.39 FPS recorded on the RTX 4070 Super.

The Conclusion: The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has a sizable advantage over the 4070 Super in ray-tracing. As such, it’s not a choice if you play many ray-traced games.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Super peaks at 222W in ray-tracing, versus 275W for the RTX 4070 Ti in the same gaming benchmarks.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super vs RTX 4070 Ti: Conclusion

The GeForce RTX 4070 Super performs the same as the RTX 4070 Ti, costing $100 less. Unless you play an ungodly number of ray-traced games, you won’t see an advantage going with the 4070 Ti. The two GPUs offer the same memory buffer, cache, and bandwidth. The only difference is in terms of shader count, a trivial one.
