NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU Benchmarks & Performance Review

The GeForce RTX 4060 mobile is among the most popular laptop GPUs, powering most budget gaming notebooks. Based on the AD107 die, it offers 3072 cores across 24 SMs paired with 8GB GDDR6 memory via a 128-bit bus. The thing about the RTX 4060 mobile is that it leverages the same silicon as the RTX 4060 desktop. The only difference between the two boils down to the clocks. While the desktop variant tops out at 2460MHz+, its mobile sibling has a boost clock of just 1890MHz.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Specs

The notebook GPU also features slightly slower memory, but both come with the same 115W TBP. We tested the Alienware x14 R2, which pairs the RTX 4060 with Intel’s Core i7-13620H and 32GB DDR5-4800 memory. This laptop features a 14″ display running at 1600p 165Hz with a 3ms response time. These specs scream fast-paced esports gaming in your usual Alienware chassis.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU Performance in the Latest Games

We tested the Alienware x14 R2 in some recently released titles, including Helldivers 2, Skull and Bones, and Robocop: Rogue City. We used the in-game “ultra” quality preset at 1080p and 1440p with the default CPU/GPU settings. Here are the results:

Assassin’s Creed Mirage averages 64 FPS at 1080p, dropping to 47.7 FPS at 1440p Ultra. The lows are a concern, with prolonged gaming sessions heating up the CPU and causing excessive throttling. This behavior is observed across other games, especially ones with higher CPU utilization.

The above GPU-busy chart highlights the frametime spikes, all CPU-related.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora averages 37 FPS at 1080p, dropping to 24.3 FPS at 1440p Ultra. This game is GPU-bound, not giving the RTX 4060 any breathing room.

Cyberpunk 2077 produces a very acceptable average of 48 FPS at 1080p but stutters all around. A look at the GPU-busy chart reveals a CPU-bound scenario that persists at 1440p.

Helldivers 2 produces an average of 45 FPS at 1080p Ultra. The 1% lows dip below 20 FPS, again courtesy of the Core i7-13620H. QHD isn’t much worse than 1080p with an average of 34 FPS.

Robocop performs similarly to Avatar. There are more CPU-related spikes with an average of 36.5 FPS at 1080p.

Skull and Bones is Ubisoft’s latest title. Despite featuring ray-traced global illumination, it averages 56.5 FPS and 46.2 FPS at 1080p and 1440p, respectively.

The frametime chart of this game is a doozy. Skull and Bones spent 73% of the benchmark CPU bottlenecked with mild to moderate stutters.
