Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S CPUs are slated to run at crazy clock frequencies. Under optimal conditions, the Core i9-13900K will boost to 5.8GHz on the P-cores, 100MHz higher than the Ryzen 9 7950X. The former will also come with support for faster memory configurations. The stock memory speed for Raptor Lake is DDR5-5600 vs. DDR5-5200 on Raphael.
The XMP 3.0 profiles for the 13th Gen Core processors are even more…well, extreme. The ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 lineup will support DDR5 speeds up to 7,600MT/s, a 2x boost over the usual DDR4-3600 XMP profile. As seen with Alder Lake, these high-end memory kits should significantly boost gaming performance as the bandwidth and latency are further tuned.
AMD should release similar profiles as part of its Expo family, but I’m not sure how well the Infinity Fabric will scale in the 3:2 configuration. 1:2 will be more feasible, and you’d need the Fclk to run at 1,900MHz which will be tricky. Either way, performance scaling won’t be relatively as seamless.
