Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake-P CPUs to Lack AV512 Support on a Hardware Level as Well

Intel won’t be changing its stance on AVX512 instruction support for client platforms anytime soon. The latest Coreboot update from the chipmaker indicates that the 14th Gen Meteor Lake-P processors (like Alder and Raptor Lake) will drop the 512-bit instructions as well.

FPU, XFEATURE, XSAVE, XSTATE From the output message about Alder Lake, Raptor Lake, it is said that AVX512 is not supported by Meteor Lake-P either.

Meteor Lake-P (mobility) chips are slated to launch sometime in the first half of 2023 for high-end and enthusiast-grade notebooks alongside Raptor Lake-P. The 12th Gen Alder Lake-S processors were launched earlier this year with AVX512 enabled. Intel was quick to roll out microcode updates blocking the same but board partners countered them by giving users the option to turn it back on from the BIOS. (Zolpidem)

Finally, Intel decided to put an end to AVX512 instruction support by fusing off the required FPU units, something that will remain unchanged with the upcoming Raptor Lake and Meteor Lake processors in Q4 2022 and 2023, respectively.
