AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D/R9 7950X3D Launching in Q1 2023 with up to 200MB of Cache [Rumor]

AMD is gearing up to launch its next-gen Ryzen 7000 CPUs next month with an announcement coming as early as next week (29th August). These 5nm processors leveraging the Zen 4 core architecture will offer a substantial performance uplift over their Zen 3 predecessors. We’re looking at single-threaded gains of 15-20% and multi-threaded boosts of over 30-40%. This will primarily be the result of a mild IPC increase and a large uptick in boost clocks: As high as 5.8GHz on the top-end SKUs.

For gamers, though, the real prize will be Raphael-X, the 3D V-Cache variant of Zen 4. According to Moore’s Law is Dead, AMD plans to launch a duo of Zen 4 3D parts early next year in the form of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. Both these chips will feature 3D stacked L3 cache chips atop the base CCD, each packing at least 64MB of cache for a total of 100MB for the former and an insane 200MB for the latter.

You can expect a lofty gaming performant upgrade from these cache-loaded processors. Tom believes that deltas of up to 30% between Zen 4 and Zen 4 V-Cache are highly possible. That stacks up to a massive ~40-50% over the existing Ryzen 5000 offerings and a double-digit lead over Intel’s Alder Lake and Raptor Lake.
