AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Overclocked to 5.5GHz: Ryzen 7000X3D to Come with Unlocked Multiplier?

AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D has been overclocked to an incredible 5.5GHz, an entire Gigahertz higher than its stock boost clock. This was achieved by setting the multiplier to 55 while keeping the bus clock unchanged at 100MHz. This is a first, as the 5800X3D comes with a locked multiplier as a precaution to prevent overclocking and any consequential thermal damage. (https://tabsnation.com/) How this user managed to overcome it is a mystery.

The CPU was paired with the ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO running the 4201 BIOS, which was released on the 26th of April (2022).

This bodes well for PC gamers as the upcoming Ryzen 7 7800X3D and it is Ryzen 9 siblings should also come with unlocked multipliers. The 5800X3D already performs in the same range as the Ryzen 7000 and Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors. With clocks approaching the 6GHz mark, they’ll be pretty much unmatched in gaming workloads.
