NVIDIA RTX 4090 Burns and Melts 16-pin Power Connector

An NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 has run into a thermal disaster, literally bursting into flames and burning the power connector. The below pictures show the damage incurred to the 16-pin connector. It was severely damaged, melting the upper row and the adapter. The poster on Reddit states that the card was attached vertically and slightly bent, though not only slightly.

A Corsair RM1000X powered the GPU, and the OP believes the adapter cable provided by the OEM is to blame. At this point, it’s hard to say anything with certainty, but this could be the power adapter, power connector, or PCB. Remember that this isn’t the Founders Edition, but the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC.
