NVIDIA RTX 5090, 5080 & 5070/Ti Mobile to Feature 16GB VRAM via a 256-bit Bus

The specifications of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 mobility GPUs have leaked out, courtesy of “Moore’s Law is Dead.” The YouTuber claims the three top-end Blackwell laptop GPUs will feature 16GB of memory across a 256-bit bus. This implies the RTX 5090, 5080, and the 5070 Ti/5070 mobile will all be 16GB graphics cards featuring a 256-bit/128-bit memory bus. For comparison, the RTX 4090, 4080, and 4070 mobile GPUs pack 16GB (256-bit), 12GB (192-bit), and 8GB (128-bit) of GDDR6 memory, respectively.

The other day, the same source revealed that the RTX 5080 and 5090 mobile GPUs are a couple of months behind in the development cycle compared to Lovelace. Furthermore, the two high-end Blackwell mobility SKUs will be based on the same die, the GB203. Usually, the 80-class mobile GPU is based on the xx204, as with the RTX 4080 mobile/4070 desktop, which leverages the AD104 core, while the 4090 mobile is based on AD103 (desktop 4080).

If this weren’t enough, the higher-end Blackwell mobile GPUs are also rumored to feature GDDR7 memory and support for PCIe Gen 5. We expect the RTX 5080 and 5090 to sport the next-gen memory standard with clocks of 24-28Gbps. Remember these are the mobile SKUs, so the frequencies will be a bit lower than the desktop parts.
