NVIDIA RTX 4080 Faster than the AMD RX 7900 XT, Slower than the RX 7900 XTX: RDNA 3 Ray Tracing on Par with RTX 3090 [Rumor]

Some early performance figures of the Radeon RX 7900 series have surfaced. The numbers come from “All The Watts” on Twitter, according to whom the Radeon RX 7900 XTX will be faster than NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 in rasterization. In ray-traced games, there won’t be much of a contest. The RTX 4080/RTX 4090 is substantially faster than the Radeon RX 7900 series, even without DLSS 3.

On the other hand, the Radeon RX 7900 XT will be even slower, losing to the RTX 4080 in most titles while offering RTX 3080 to 3090 levels of ray-tracing performance. The GeForce RTX 4090 will be the undisputed king, with a notable lead over the RX 7900 XTX in rasterized games and unbeatable numbers in ray tracing. With all that said, in certain AMD partner titles, the 7900 XTX will be just marginally slower than the RTX 4090. Similarly, the RTX 4080 should beat both the RX 7900 XT and the XTX in GeForce partner titles.

These figures may seem premature and unreliable, but going through AMD’s official slide deck, they’re very plausible and align with RDNA 3‘s expected ray-tracing capabilities.
