NVIDIA Releases Faster Variant of the RTX 3060 Based on GA104: Over 20% Faster in Blender

NVIDIA seems to have silently updated the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, replacing the GA106 with the GA104 die. While the shader count has remained unchanged at 3,584, the number of ROPs has increased by over 30% to 64 (from 48). While the impact of this change in gaming is limited, rendering workloads have seen a steady improvement. Blender, for example, is at least 20% faster on the updated variant of the RTX 3060 12GB.

The GeForce RTX 3060 is one of the most popular graphics cards on the market. Among Steam gamers, it’s hands down the most widely used GPU, with a market share of over 10%, followed by the RTX 2060 and the RTX 3070.

Revisions to 60-class cards aren’t unheard of. NVIDIA did something similar with the GTX 1660 and the RTX 2060. Both cards are still selling in spades despite being several years old.
