Intel is set to introduce the Meteor Lake lineup on the desktop platform as the “14th Gen Core Ultra desktop processors.” Meteor Lake-PS (intersection of P and S series) will likely leverage a BGA packaging, bringing the power efficiency of the Core Ultra mobility chips to the IoT Edge platform. It can be viewed as the successor to the Alder Lake PS lineup comprising of the 15W “U” and 45W “H” series CPUs. These chips are identical to their mobility counterparts and sport the UL/HL suffix with a narrow cTDP range.
The MI1002 Mini-ITX motherboards feature the FCLGA1851 socket with support for up to 64GB of DDR5 memory (2x SODIMMs). For display, it offers HDMI, DisplayPort++, and 2x Type-X outputs. Storage can be connected using one of the three M.2 (M/E/B-key) or the lone PCIe x4 slot. It also offers four USB 3.2 Type-A, two USB 3.2 Type-C ports, four USB 2.0, and two SATA III ports.
The MI1002 is 5G-ready with a watchdog timer, digital I/O, and dTPM/fTPM for security compliance. For network connectivity, you also get an Intel I22LM 2.5G LAN and an Intel I226V 2.5G LAN adapter. Audio support includes a Meteor Lake-PS HD audio controller with Realtek Codec ALC888S-VD2-GR.
AMD is prepping the launch of its Ryzen 9000 “Zen 5” processors in the coming months, ahead of Arrow Lake. Intel will likely offer cheaper, previous-gen options at the lower-end and IoT markets.
