Intel has released a new graphics driver, significantly improving the performance of the Arc A770 in DX9 titles. The beta driver brings a new DirectX 9 implementation to the Arc graphics cards, including the A770, A750, A380, and the mobility Arc dGPUs. Alchemist still uses a hybrid approach with translation layers rather than a native API implementation which means there’s little developers can do about it. All API-level optimizations need to come from the AXG software team.
Looking at the data, we can see that the lows are significantly higher with the new driver. Popular eSports title CS: GO gets a massive uplift of 2.26x and 2.15x at 1080p and 1440p, respectively.
The average frame rates also show a steady upward trend, with Counter-Strike again leading the charge. The competitive shooter is nearly 80% faster than before at 1080p and 1440p.
