AMD Vulkan Graphics Driver Adds Ray Tracing Support for Radeon RX 6000 GPUs

AMD’s open-source Vulkan graphics driver (AMDVLK GPUOpen) has been updated to support 64-bit ray-tracing support on its RDNA 2 graphics processors, including the Radeon RX 6000 GPUs and Ryzen 6000 APUs. With this update, all AMD Vulkan drivers including Mesa3D RADV, AMDVLK GPUOpen, and AMDGPU-PRO support hardware raytracing.

The GPU Ray Tracing Library (GPURT) has also been added which includes BVH (Bounding volume hierarchy) build and sort processing in ray tracing using HLSL shaders. GPURT can also be used with DirectX 12 DXR in addition to Vulkan.

The use of GPURT library being a common library between DX12 and Vulkan allows for a unified and optimized ray-tracing and shader library.
