AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D is 11% Faster than 5800X in Gaming, Slower than Intel’s Core i9-12900KS, on Par with the i9-12900K

AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D featuring 3D stacked L3 cache is slated to hit the market next week with a price tag of $449. The chipmaker is promising leadership gaming performance with its final AM4 processor under the $450 mark, signing off the DDR4 era in style. The first reviews of the 5800X3D are out, and we’ll be having a quick look at the 720p gaming benchmarks (via: TPU).

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s performance varies greatly depending on the workload. The frame rate boost over the 5800X is also not uniform across the board. AMD partner titles like Borderlands 3 and Far Cry 5 see performance boosts of over 40%, pretty much destroying every other Intel and AMD CPU on the market. However, neutral titles like Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077, and Metro Exodus see a minimal uplift in frame rates, with the 5800X3D often leveling with the Core i9-12900K and the i7-12700K.

On the downside, popular games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Civ VI, and CS: Go see almost no gain in performance, placing Intel’s entire 12th Gen family ahead of the 5800X3D in these titles. Overall, the Ryzen 7 5800XD is 11% faster than the 5800X, 2.5% faster than the i7-12700K, and on par with the i9-12900K. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a very unique product. The performance gains vary greatly from game to game, with several popular titles seeing almost no uplift over the 5800X. This is a cause for concern for AMD as CS: GO is one of the most widely played shooters, and it’s mainly FPS gamers who look for high frame rates.
