The first gaming benchmark of the GeForce RTX 4080 has graced the web. Twitter user MEGAsizeGPU has shared a 4K performance benchmark of the high-end Ada Lovelace GPU running Forza Horizon 5 at 4K. The game was tested using the “Extreme/Ultra” quality preset with ray-tracing set to “High”. The RTX 4080 was paired with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and 32GB of DDR5 memory.
The GeForce RTX 4080 manages a healthy 117 FPS on average, with lows of 102 FPS. The average latency clocks in at 25.6 ms, and the performance is GPU limited by 94%.
The GeForce RTX 4090, with its larger buffer, is a smidge faster, averaging 137 FPS with lows of 122 FPS. The latency averages 21.2 ms, and the game appears CPU bound, the GPU limiting it 44% of the time. In this case, the Lovelace flagship is just 17% faster than the RTX 4080. In other words, the latter is 85% as fast as its older sibling.
Remember that this is one of the slimmer deltas we’ll see in gaming workloads. The Ryzen 5 7600X hinders the RTX 4090 while offering just enough overhead to the 4080. A Ryzen 7 7700X or, even better, a Ryzen 9 7900X or its Core i9 rival would be a better match for the RTX 4090.
