Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake-S processors have been doing rather well since they launched late last year. With the Core i7-12700K offering Ryzen 9 5900X levels of performance under $400, the latest-gen i7 has been climbing the sales charts all over the world. As reported earlier, the said SKU had briefly Ryzen to the #2 spot across Newegg, and Amazon after which AMD counteracted by dropping prices and regaining some of the lost ground.
Now after more than a month, the Core i7-12700K has once again beaten all but one Ryzen SKU. The Alder Lake chip holds the #2 spot on Newegg and BestBuy, #3 on Microcenter, and #4 on Amazon. The Ryzen 5 5600X continues to be the bestseller pretty much everywhere thanks to a new round of price cuts. The hex-core Zen 3 processor is now going for just $209.99 on Microcenter and $229.99 on Amazon.
At this rate, it won’t be long before the Core i5-12600K and 12700K drop even further in prices and take the top two spots on the bestsellers list. AMD plans to launch the Ryzen 7 5800X3D next month with an aim to retake the gaming crown but supply is going to be key.
As per rumors, the next-gen Ryzen 7000 processors have been pushed to the last quarter of the year. The Zen 4 lineup is set to offer a single-threaded gain of up to 30-40% but the multi-threaded performance is going to take a backseat as we’re once again looking at a 16-core flagship. Meanwhile, Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake-S top-chip is going to double down on thread count with 16 efficiency cores and a total of 24 cores or 32 threads. How times change…
