NVIDIA is expected to launch its next-gen RTX 4080/4090 graphics cards in August or September this year. Based on the Ada Lovelace microarchitecture, these GPUs will (nearly) double both the core counts as well as the memory buffers. We may see an initial reveal of Team Green’s new graphics architecture as early as late March (in a couple of weeks from now).
Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology and Telecom Conference 2022, NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress spoke in length about the company’s plans in both the PC gaming and server markets. She hinted at the announcement/launch of the AD100 data center accelerator as soon as the fourth week of March during GTC 2022.
So, we’ve always focused on exciting our gamers with every new generation that

comes out or another way to think about that is, of course, we’re working behind the
scenes on what’s coming up next. That’s just something that we do. We believe in the
best of breed that is when it’s ready, we will bring it to market. That’s about the best
thing that we can do. And we always have gamers that are excited for each
generation that comes out to be first to overall purchase that.
So, you’re correct. We’re not here to announce products. And I think you’ll continue to
hear us both talk about some items here at GTC as well as things going forward. But
it doesn’t — nothing changes. And even during this period of COVID and supply
constraint, it’s been interesting because it’s given us the opportunity for gaming to
continue to sell both the current generation as well as the Turing generation. So we’ve
been doing that to provide more and more supply to our gamers in that, and we may
see something like that continue in the future. It was successful with Ampere, and
we’ll see as we move forward.
She went on to comment about the graphics card shortages which are getting better with each passing month. According to Kress, the second half of 2022 should see the stabilization of the GPU market. The launch of the RTX 4080/4090 paired with an increased production capacity of the RTX 30 series GPUs, most notably the RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, and the RTX 3070 Ti will help restore balance to the fragile ecosystem.
NVIDIA has continued to sell the RTX 2060 alongside the RTX 30 series GPUs, primarily due to the increased demand and poor 8nm yields at Samsung’s foundry. The same strategy should continue with the RTX 40 series. The RTX 4080 and 4090 will launch in the third quarter, followed by the RTX 4070 in the last quarter of the year. Till the RTX 4060 launches (sometime in the first half of 2023), the RTX 3060, 3070 Ti should continue selling in ample numbers.
This is good news for gamers as the enthusiasts will get to buy the cutting-edge RTX 4080/4090, the budget audience will be able to get decent prices for the RTX 3060/3060 Ti, and 3070/3070 Ti class GPUs.
