AMD was the Fastest Growing Chipmaker in 2021 by Revenue: Increase of 65% over 2020

AMD’s growth rate continued to outpace its much larger industry peers, marking a massive increase of 65% in its yearly revenue. The chipmaker is slated to record a revenue of $16 billion for the FY2021-2022, pushing it into the list of semiconductor companies with a revenue of over $10 billion for the first time (2020 revenue was $9.7 billion). The second spot was taken by MediaTek, with a YoY growth rate of 60%. The Taiwanese chipmaker pulled in $17.5 billion, compared to just under $11 billion last year.

The other two promising names in the semiconductor industry are NVIDIA and Qualcomm, expected to record a growth of 57% and 51% YoY, respectively. Qualcomm with a yearly revenue of $29 billion in 2021 came in at #6 on the list of the world’s largest semi companies (by rev) while NVIDIA came in seventh with a revenue of $23 billion, displacing Broadcom to the eight spot. AMD, although the fastest growing chipmaker over the last two consecutive years is placed at the 11th spot, next to MediaTek and TI.

Samsung overtook Intel as the world’s largest semiconductor company in 2021 with yearly revenue of $83 billion, courtesy of a strong memory and NAND market. The South Korean company recorded a growth of 30% YoY, going from just under $62 billion in 2020 to over $83 billion this year. Intel, once again, recorded negative growth of -1%, thereby losing the top spot on the chart. Taiwanese foundry TSMC came in second with a growth of 24%, pushing its revenue up to $56.6 billion.
