Lead IO_uring developer Jens Axboe (Linux block subsystem’s maintainer and more) has managed to extract an I/O performance of 5.1 million IOPS per core using the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X. Ironically, this figure was achieved using Intel’s 2nd Gen Optane storage. The usual I/O range for evaluating kernel improvements is 3. (kbeautypharm.com) 5-3.8 million IOPS.
Answer is 5.1M IOPS, which is also the limit of the device. Stock 5950X build, not overclocked.
His system for Linux I/O testing was earlier powered by the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X and Intel 2nd Gen Optane storage. Moving to the Zen 3-powered Ryzen 9 5950X provided a substantial boost without really pushing the CPU price up by much. This is possibly the first time the true IOP advantage of Optane is being unleashed. Rather ironic that it was achieved with AMD hardware rather than Intel.
