Zotac’s GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Leak was Likely Just a Spelling Mistake

Yesterday, Zotac supposedly leaked the existence of a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti via its FireStorm Overclocking Utility directory, which only contains images used by the software. However, it seems that this was simply a spelling mistake rather than an error. The primary reason being that there has never been a GeForce x90 Ti which itself can be chalked down to minimal demand for a second card above the RTX x80 Ti with minimal differences in performance.

According to Igor from Igor’s Lab, a 48GB variant of the GA102 in the GeForce lineup is unlikely for two main reasons. Firstly, you’d need 2GB GDDR6X modules for such an SKU which simply don’t exist. Both the GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 feature 1GB GDDR6X modules connected via a 16-bit bus to the memory controller.

The Quadro RTX A6000 aimed at creators and small studios which leverages the full-fledged GA102 die used on the top-end RT 30 series parts actually features GDDR6 memory instead of the newer GDDR6X. As such, releasing a GeForce card with the same specs would be a moot point.

Last but not the least, according to Igor, none of the AIB board partners have heard of a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, and the aforementioned leak is likely just a spelling mistake.
