Zotac’s recent statement about Ampere NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 availability adds to the fire after what’s turning into one of the worst GPU launches in the past decade. A combination of extreme demand and inadequate supply means that potential Ampere buyers could face months and months of wait time.

In Zotac’s statement, the AIBs claimed that it was flooded with nearly 20,000 preorders for the GeForce RTX 3080 Trinity on Amazon, alone. They claimed to be “infinitely sorry.”
Other AIBs have not been faring much better. A number of GeForce RTX 3080 models are out of stock everywhere and prices on remaining models are grossly inflated to the point that the upcoming GeForce RTX 3090 starts looking like a decent deal. At this point, there’s no telling when the madness will stop and what impact massive demand will have on the long-term pricing for NVIDIA’s flagship Ampere card. We’ll have to wait and watch.
