TSMC’S Revenue for Q1 2020 Grew by an All-Time High of 42%

Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) reported a healthy increase in revenue for March 2020, with a sequential increase of 21.5% compared to the previous month. Compared to March 2019, the revenue grew by a massive 42.2%. The first quarter’s revenue came up to NT$310.60 billion, 42% higher than Q1 2019.

This is an all-time high as per market analysts, slightly above TSMC’s guidance for the first quarter of 2020. The foundry was anticipating revenue of US$10.2 billion to US$10.3 billion.

Meanwhile, UMC (United Microelectronics) also saw a hefty rise in revenue for Q1 2020. The foundry’s revenues for March 2020 climbed 41.1% from a year earlier to NT$14.57 billion. Revenues for the first quarter amounted to NT$42.27 billion, up 29.7% on year.

TSMC is easily the leading foundry in the world right now. The company’s 7nm node was used to design AMD’s Ryzen 3000 desktop and Ryzen 4000 mobile processors as well as Huawei and Apple’s flagship chips.

The 4th Gen Ryzen Ryzen 4000 processors are also going to utilize an enhanced version of the 7nm node (not EUV), with the 5nm process on track for volume production in Q2-2020. Apple is going to be one of the first clients to use the new process.
