The RDNA 2 GPU Powering the Samsung Exynos 2200 is Based on a Downgraded Version of the Steam Deck GPU

Data mined from the firmware of the Exynos 2200 indicates that the Xclipse GPU powering Samsung’s latest SoC is based on AMD’s Van Gogh APU, the same die that lies at the heart of the Steam Deck handheld console. This isn’t much surprising as both GPUs are based on AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture, except one is an x86 processor while the other is an Arm design.

Interestingly, the Xclipse 920 is labeled as Van Gogh Lite in its firmware while the full-fledged Van Gogh APU powers the Deck. AMD has simply paired the Exynos 2200 with a downgraded version of the same GPU. We’re looking at 384 shaders instead of 512 or in WGP terms three WGPs versus four on the Steam Deck.
