Supply for NVIDIA’s RTX 3070, RTX 3080 and 3090 to be Very Limited in 2020

As per Australian outlet, Tweaktown, stock for NVIDIA’s RTX 30 series (Ampere) graphics cards will be very very limited for at least the next few months. As per their source, ” There will be no stock will be available till the end of the year”. The initial stock of Ampere GPUs will be very, very small, possibly the smallest launch in over a decade. The reason for this two-fold. Firstly, NVIDIA isn’t sure about Samsung’s 8nm yields. In other words, it’s unknown how good yields will be, considering that there aren’t many major products leveraging the 8nm node. The fact that this is supposed to be a custom node made specifically for NVIDIA makes it even more complicated. As such, NVIDIA is limiting production to see how mature the node is and accordingly ramp up production.

The second reason, of course, concerns AMD’s RDNA 2 or Navi 2x graphics cards. NVIDIA wants to wait and see how the much-anticipated Big Navi GPU performs and accordingly price a potential 3080 Ti and/or 3070 Ti. It’s likely that Navi 21 will trade blows with the RTX 3080 or be somewhat faster which will give NVIDIA the opportunity to launch the 3080 Ti at a slightly higher price to level the playing ground.
