Despite the lukewarm reaction, Samsung will retain AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture with its next-gen Exynos SoC. According to a report from Trendforce, the Samsung Galaxy S24 will be powered by the Exynos 2400, featuring a 10-core CPU and a 4-core RDNA GPU (256 shaders). The SoC will be fabbed on Samsung’s 4nm LPP (power optimized) node, improving power efficiency and battery life.
The Exynos 2400 will go up against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will also power certain variants of the Galaxy S24. Over the previous few generations, the latter has offered superior power consumption while maintaining a performance lead. It’s unlikely that Samsung will be able to straighten out both ends simultaneously.
We’ll have to wait and see how much of an improvement the next-gen Exynos GPU offers over the Xclipse 920. For the time being, the Korean company will continue to manufacture smartphones leveraging both Exynos and SnapDragon SoCs
