Samsung Exynos 2200 w/ AMD RDNA 2 GPU to Feature 6 Compute Units or 384 SPs [Rumor]

Another leak from reputed tipster @iceuniverse on Weibo has revealed the GPU configuration of the Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC which is set to feature AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics (for the first in a smartphone). The source states that Samsung will pair a six-core (CU) iGPU based on the RDNA 2 architecture with an eight-core CPU fabbed on the foundry’s 4nm LPE node.

This makes sense as the Steam Deck handheld console was just announced with 8x RDNA 2 CUs and four Zen 2 cores fabbed on TSMC’s 7nm node. In terms of density, TSMC’s N7 and Samsung’s 4LPE nodes are very similar, and if AMD can fit four whole Zen 2 cores and eight RDNA 2 CUs on the Deck’s SoC, then Samsung should have no difficulty squeezing six of them on its most advanced node.

For comparison purposes (although this is like comparing apples to pineapples), the Exynos 2100 featured a 14-core Mali-G78 GPU while the Apple A14 Bionic which packs a four-core GPU is the fastest mobile GPU on the market. A six CU RDNA 2 GPU with 384 stream processors shouldn’t have a hard time crushing both its rivals, given Samsung can manage its thermals well.
