Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 SSD w/ Speeds up to 6500MB/s Coming Soon

Although we’ve already seen a bunch of PCIe 4.0 SSDs such as the Sabrent Rocket and the Gigabyte Aorus, the major industry players are yet to show their hand. I’m talking about Samsung, WD, and Crucial. It looks like we won’t have to wait long as Samsung is prepping its 980 PRO SSD which will allegedly support the newer PCIe 4.0 standard. We are looking at speeds as high as 6500MB/s sequential read and 5000MB/s sequential write.

The Samsung 980 PRO will be available in three capacities: 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. It’ll be Samsung’s first consumer SSD to support PCIe 4. We should start seeing more mainstream PCIe 4 drives after this launch. By the time the PS5 launches, we ought to have ample drives capable of giving it a run for its money.
