If you work with sensitive information files, it is customary to lock some of them with passwords. In this day and age, where digital espionage is rampant, adding an extra layer of security to your files is not bad.

However, protecting your PDFs with passwords can be counterproductive if you forget the passwords you use. Forgetfulness is always a possibility if you deal with so many different files at the same time. To avoid forgetting your passwords, we recommend saving the passwords for each file in a safe place only you know.

But in cases where you forget the password to a PDF, and you need to open it, what do you do?

Please keep reading to discover clever ways to unlock it.

Use Adobe Acrobat Pro

Adobe Acrobat has two versions. Adobe Acrobat Reader is the free version. If this is the one you have, you will be unable to open your password-protected PDF.  We recommend Acrobat Pro, which is the paid version. This version works quite well. But how do you use it?

Step 1- Open the Application

Open Adobe Acrobat Pro on your device to get started.

Step 2 – Click The File

Click the PDF file by navigating the top window on the top left corner of the screen and clicking the drop-down menu. Better still, you can click on the “Recently Viewed” tab to see if the actual PDF file you need will be displayed.

Step 3 – Double Click PDF

Once you have found the file you are looking for, double-click it to open it with Adobe Acrobat Pro. You may need to select a new directory, such as Desktop or Document if you use a computer.

If double-clicking does not work, right-click the file, then click Open.

Step 4 – Preview The File

If you don’t have the password, you cannot unlock a locked PDF with Adobe Pro, but you can preview it. You can’t do so with your web browser by clicking the Preview File icon. Once the page opens, and you can see the content, write down any vital information you might need.

Use An Online Web Application

Still looking for ways to unlock a password-protected PDF? Why not try an online web application?

This approach may work if the PDF file is saved on your device. All you need to do is visit the site and upload the file. After the file has been uploaded, download it again from the site and view it. Fortunately for users, many online web applications unlock password-protected PDFs with functional features.

A very good online application can open a PDF without a password if you have the file in your system. A good example is the professional DRS PDF software. DRS will unlock your file without corrupting it, and you should be able to view the content afterward.

It removes standard user passwords and deletes owner passwords so the PDF can be opened. An online web app like DRS or any other reputable application will remove the following restrictions:

  • Printing restriction
  • Copying restriction
  • Editing restriction
  • Owner and user password
  • Document modification restriction
  • Assembling restriction

Opt For Password Remover

If you are missing the password to your PDF file and need to open it urgently, another method to try is the password remover option. A password remover will remove the password without delay in a few steps.

Step 1 – Import Password PDF

The first step is to launch the PDF password remover app, then click Add files to upload the PDF file you wish to unlock.

Step 2 – Choose Output Folder

The next step is to choose your preferred output folder. Select the folder and click Save. After selecting your folder, commence the unlock by clicking on the appropriate icon. This action will remove the password so you can tap and view it.
