NVIDIA’s RTX 3070 Ti Falls Short of the AMD Radeon RX 6800 Despite Higher Price Tag

The reviews for NVIDIA’s RTX 3070 Ti are now up from various reviewers, but very few of them seem to be pointing out how redundant the card really is. Most users will be using this SKU for gaming at 1440p, so let’s have a look at those results:

The RTX 3070 Ti is less than 10% faster than the RTX 3070 (non-Ti) at 1440p, all the while being a tad bit slower than the slightly cheaper AMD Radeon RX 6800. The $699 RTX 3080 is some 15% faster, meaning for another $100 you get a little more than 10% additional FPS. That’s how bad things really are in the GPU market. You’re paying $10 for just over a frame per second.

At 1080p, the Radeon RX 6800 extends its lead over the RTX 3070 Ti on account of the higher L3 hit rates courtesy of the Infinity Cache. The delta between the RTX 3070 and 3070 Ti, and the 3070 Ti and the 3080 also shrink, bringing the three even closer, and throwing the price-performance ratio of the latter out of the window.

At 4K, the GDDR6X memory on the RTX 3070 Ti comes into play, and it takes a relatively larger, yet still unimpressive lead over the RTX 3070 at exactly 15%, but the RX 6800 still continues to be a smidge faster. Likewise, the RTX 3080, on account of its higher bandwidth increases its lead over the 3070 Ti to a more palpable 20%.
