NVIDIA to Sell the RTX 3080/3090 Founders’ Edition via 3rd Party Sellers

NVIDIA has started selling the Founders’ Edition variants of the RTX 3080 and 3090 in the US via online retailers such as BestBuy and will likely do the same in Europe soon. Till now, the FE/reference cards have been exclusively been sold through the NVIDIA store.

This was announced on the GeForce forums by one of the company reps, suggesting that similar options for Europe are presently being evaluated:

In the meantime, we will be selling our GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 Founders Edition through other partners.

In the US, you can shop for Founders Edition at Best Buy – GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3090. In Europe, we continue to review Founders Edition fulfillment options.

This move is the result of feedback from gamers who have wanted the Founders’ Edition cards to be sold outside of the official GeForce store. That coupled with the ease that bots have scalped the GPUs from the latter have prompted NVIDIA to break the norms:

Founders Edition units are limited, and more will be available in the coming weeks alongside an increasing supply of boards from our global board partners.

As per NVIDIA CEO, Jensen Huang, the shortages are expected to continue till the end of 2021. Although he attributed this to the “Ampere factor” and some other absurd non-sense, the shortage is likely due to the following reasons:

  • Uncertain yields at Samsung’s 8nm foundries.
  • Limited GDDR6X memory supply.
  • Unstable drivers/firmware due to the short time given to partners before launch
