NVIDIA RTX A2000 Offers Better Ether Mining Efficiency than the RX 6600

NVIDIA’s Ampere graphics cards are known for their mining performance, courtesy of the wider memory bus and GDDR6X memory. The GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 offer the highest hash rate in Ether and Conflux, 2-3 times more than their Radeon counterparts. However, in terms of power efficiency, they leave a lot to be desired. AMD’s Radeon RX 6600 series really shine here, even though they can only manage a paltry hash rate of around 30 MH/s in Ethereum.

Turns out the competitor to the Radeon RX 6600 (in mining) is the smallest Ampere workstation GPU, the RTX A2000. Tests conducted by Dizzy Mining show that the A2000 is even more efficient than the RX 6600, with a hash rate and power draw of 41 MH/s, and 66W, respectively.

The RTX A2000 is based on the GA106 core, the same as the RTX 3060. It features 3,328 cores and 6GB of GDDR6 memory paired with a 192-bit bus. It also comes with 104 Tensor cores and 26 RT cores.

The RTX A2000 is capable of 41 MH/s in Ethereum mining with a power draw of 66W after some tuning. The core was overclocked by +100 MHz and the memory by +1,500, rather impressive for a PNY workstation card. The power slider was reduced to 95% and the fan speed was increased to 100%. The following results were observed:

  • AMD RX 6600 XT (Tuned): 33 MH/s @ 55W (0.59 PPW)
  • AMD RX 6600 Non-XT (Tuned): 30 MH/s @ 50W (0.61 PPW)
  • NVIDIA RTX A2000 (Tuned): 41 MH/s @ 66W (0.62 PPW)

The RTX A2000 is slated to hit the retail market in December with an MSRP of $649.99. Availability should remain lean as the Ethereum 2.0 update has been yet again delayed by a few months.
