NVIDIA RTX 4090 Founders Edition Ends Up Burning and Melting 12VHPWR Connector as Well

After multiple AIB cards ended up melting their power connectors, a Founders Edition has met the same fate. The GeForce RTX 4090 has been plagued by defective 12VHPWR power connectors, causing thermal damage to the plug and the card. The 16-pin power connector comes directly from NVIDIA, so it’s the officially approved design, yet we see the same result.

This GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition was purchased from BestBuy on the 19th of October. It was paired with an ASUS ROG Helios chassis and the PCIe Gen 5-grade ASUS ROG Thor 1200W power supply. According to the poster, the power cables weren’t bent, and three 8-pin connectors were connected using the 12VHPWR adapter.

Right before the incident, the screen went blank, and everything the user tried was in vain. Luckily, the OP got an RMA, and the damaged RTX 4090 was replaced. Unfortunately, NVIDIA is yet to make a statement on the matter.
