Ray Tracing Performance on the next page…

NVIDIA RTX 4070 vs. 4070 Ti Ray Tracing Performance

Ray Tracing performance scales with the SM count and the cache size. In ray-traced games, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is notably faster than the 4070. “A Plague Tale” is ~20% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than the 4070 in this scenario. The former manages an average of 71 FPS, up from 59 FPS on the latter.

In Crysis Remastered, the RTX 4070 nets 148 FPS, a smidge lower than the 163 FPS on the 4070 Ti.

In Cyberpunk 2077 RTX 4070 Ti holds a 27% lead over the RTX 4070. The former averages 75.4 FPS, up from 59.5 FPS on the latter.

Dying Light 2 behaves similarly, averaging 87 FPS on the 4070 and 109 FPS on the 4070 Ti.

Earlier, F1 2022 didn’t run well on the RTX 4070 Ti, managing a lean advantage over the 4070. Enabling ray tracing increases the delta to 25%. The RTX 4070 averages 87 FPS, while the 4070 Ti manages 109 FPS.

Ghostwire Tokyo is an outlier, recording the lowest deficit of 10% between the RTX 4070 and 4070 Ti. They average 125 FPS and 138.5 FPS at 1080p (RT Ultra).

Hitman 3 continues to scale poorly, averaging 8-9% higher on the RTX 4070 Ti, even with ray tracing turned on. The RTX 4070 nets 100.8 FPS, while the 4070 Ti comes in a little higher at 109.5 FPS.

Metro Exodus turns the tables on the RTX 4070, conferring a lead of 27% to the 4070 Ti. We’re looking at averages of 71.6 FPS and 90.9 FPS, respectively.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider exhibits a similar delta (26%) between the 70 class cards. The RTX 4070 averages 155 FPS, while the 4070 Ti ups it to 196 FPS.

The Callisto Protocol is another AMD partner title that scales horribly on GeForce hardware. The RTX 4070 Ti averages 100 FPS, up from 90 FPS on the RTX 4070 in this Dead Space clone.

In ray traced games, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is 20-25% faster than the RTX 4070 at 1080p native (or 1440p with DLSS 2). We suspect that the performance deltas will be notably wider at 1440p (4K DLSS) as the 36MB cache buffer on the 4070 starts to runs out. Therefore, we stick by our recommendation: The RTX 4070 for 1080p (Ultra) and 1440p (High), and the 4070 Ti for 1440p (Ultra) and 4K (High).
