NVIDIA RTX 40 Series (Ada) Not Coming Till Q4 2022 at the Earliest

It looks like NVIDIA’s next-gen Ada lineup won’t be coming till at least the end of 2022. This was revealed by a reputed tipster on Twitter, kopite7kimi. According to the source, the lifespan of the existing RTX 30 series, otherwise known as Ampere has been extended to the end of next year. This is hardly surprising news considering the chip shortages that have plagued the industry over the last year or so.

NVIDIA’s next-gen consumer graphics card lineup is expected to be based on a monolithic design, featuring an updated microarchitecture in the form of Ada Lovelace and most likely TSMC or Samsung’s 5nm EUV process. Considering that both foundries won’t be opening their cutting-edge 5nm process for mainstream clients this year, this does make sense. Mass production of AMD’s 5nm-based Zen 4 CPUs is expected to start in the second half of 2022, and the same likely applies to NVIDIA’s upcoming lineup.
