NVIDIA RTX 3090 Gaming Benchmarks Leaked: Just 10% Faster than the RTX 3080

Chinese outlet, Teclab has once again gone ahead and leaked the gaming benchmarks for the GeForce RTX 3090. This is our first look at the real-world performance of the 3090. Considering that their earlier RTX 3080 benchmarks were quite accurate, there’s no reason not to trust these figures either.

RTX 3090: 130 FPS
RTX 3080: 129 FPS

A variety of games from Borderlands 3, Far Cry 5, and Assassins’ Creed Odyssey to a bunch of RTX titles such as Control, Death Stranding, and SoTTR were tested with and without RTX and the results are quite clear. The GeForce RTX 3090 is less than 10% faster than the RTX 3080 on average, with some non-RTX games showing a delta of just 2-3 frames.

This isn’t surprising that there are only a few minor differences between the cards. The shader count is nearly similar to the RTX 3080 featuring 68 SMs (or 8,704 cores) and the RTX 3090 packing the full GA102 chip with 82 SMs (or 10,496 core). (advvisioncenters.com) Other than that, the former features a 320-bit bus while the latter is slightly wider at 384-bit. The primary difference is with respect to the VRAM. The RTX 3090 packs a massive 24GB VRAM buffer, but as we’ve already seen 10GB or even 8GB is sufficient for most modern games at 4K.
