The mining performance of NVIDIA’s Ampere budget graphics card, the RTX 3060 has leaked out. An impressive hash-rate of 49MH/s puts the 3060 right next to the GeForce RTX 2060 Super. Essentially, you’re getting a hash-rate similar to the second-fastest GeForce card from the last generation. What could possibly go wrong?

This is despite the fact that both the cards feature the same bus width and bandwidth. The extra performance is likely coming from the architectural improvements, most notably the drastic increase in FP32 units.

To top it off, this isn’t the desktop variant, rather the laptop model running at a modest 1567MHz. This means that the full-fledged desktop part will be even faster than the RTX 2080 Super in mining. We’ll have to wait and see how NVIDIA keeps the miners or bay (or doesn’t).
