The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is the fastest GPU AMD has made in quite some time. It battles the GeForce RTX 4080 ($1,199) at an MSRP of $999, often delivering the same level of performance for less. In this post, we’ll test the two high-end graphics cards at 1440p and 4K to find the winner. Ray-tracing and frame-time benchmarks will also be included for a finer-grained understanding of the in-game performance.

NVIDIA RTX 4080 vs AMD RX 7900 XTX: 1440p Benchmarks
At 1440p, the GeForce RTX 4080 competes with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX on an even footing. In “A Plague Tale”, the former is a smidge faster than the latter, averaging 98.7 FPS versus 94.2 FPS on the 7900 XTX.
Looking closer at the frame times, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX offers slightly smoother performance than the RTX 4080. That said, the difference won’t be noticeable in real-world gameplay.
Assassins’ Creed Valhalla runs better on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, although the RTX 4080 delivers slightly higher lows.
Cyberpunk 2077 exhibits similar behavior. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is 10% faster than the RTX 4080, although the lows are once again better on the latter.
Dying Light 2 is a tie, but the Radeon RX 7900 XTX distinguishes itself in the frametime segment with a notably smoother graph.
F1 2022 is an outlier. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is 50% faster than the RTX 4080 in this benchmark, with notably superior lows.
The 7900 XTX delivers virtually lag-free gameplay in F1 2022 with a delta of 2ms between 99% of frametime values.
Ghostwire Tokyo also favors the Radeon RX 7900 XTX with higher lows and a smoother frame time graph.
Hitman 3 is also faster on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX (on average) but delivers better lows on the RTX 4080.
Hogwarts Legacy and Shadow of the Tomb Raider both run better on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX with smoother lows as well as averages.
The last two games favor the GeForce RTX 4080 with notably better lows as well.
The Callisto Protocol and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands are AMD partner titles, and yet the 4080 is faster in both. The same can be said for the frametimes, especially in the case of the latter.
