It is time to test NVIDIA’s 70-class GPUs from the midrange segment. The GeForce RTX 4070 and 4070 Ti both leverage the AD104 die and 12GB of GDDR6X memory across a 192-bit bus. The primary difference lies in the count counts and the clocks. While the RTX 4070 packs 5,888 FP32 cores, the 4070 Ti raises that number to 7,680. Alongside the shaders, the RT Cores, Tensors, and L2 cache are also higher on the latter.

Test Bench
- CPU: Intel Core i9-13900KF.
- Cooler: Lian Li Galahad 360.

- Memory: 16GB x2 6000MT/s CL38.
- Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i.
Before we move on to the benchmarks, let’s discuss the various metrics we’ll use to define the performance through the test. For the most part, we’ll rely on the average FPS, 1% percentile, and 1% low average. The first is self-explanatory. The 1% percentile refers to the lowest 1% framerates. In other words, the game runs higher than that value 99% of the time. The 1% low average defines the average of the 1% percentile. Ergo, it’s the average of the slowest 1% frames.
NVIDIA RTX 4070 vs 4070 Ti 1080p Benchmarks
At 1080p resolution, both GPUs deliver ample performance even at the highest quality graphics preset. Starting with “A Plague Tale”, we see the RTX 4070 Ti establish a lead of roughly 20% over the RTX 4070.

Assassins’ Creed and Cyberpunk 2077 are 17% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti than the RTX 4070. Since both GPUs have an identical memory configuration, the lows mostly scale with the averages.

Dying Light 2 is nearly 50% faster on the RTX 4070 Ti, as the 4070 averages 140.8 FPS with a 1% low average of 67 FPS. The former nets 210 FPS with lows of 83 FPS.

F1 2022 doesn’t run well on NVIDIA GPUs, and it shows. The RTX 4070 and 4070 Ti perform roughly the same in this game. Hitman 3 is another AMD partner title with a slim 8% lead for the latter and similar lows.

Hogwarts Legacy averages 118.5 FPS on the RTX 4070, conferring a lead of 11% to the 4070 Ti, which averages 132 FPS. Once again, the lows are in line with the average FPS. Shadow of the Tomb Raider extends the lead to 15% with notably higher average lows for the RTX 4070 Ti.

The Callisto Protocol maintains the trend of slim deltas, while in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, the RTX 4070 Ti is 28% faster than the 4070, on average.

Overall, the GeForce RTX 4070 is better suited for 1080p gaming. The RTX 4070 Ti offers nominal gains at this resolution, leaving it more suited for 1440p and 4K.
