The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080 are the most popular 1440p and 4K gaming GPUs. With a price tag of $799 and $1,199, they fall somewhere between affordable and overpriced. We compare the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and 4080 across a series of high-resolution gaming benchmarks to determine if the latter is worth the additional $200. Ray-tracing tests will also be included to gauge the performance of newer titles.

Before we move on to the benchmarks, let’s discuss the metrics. For the most part, we’ll rely on the average FPS, 1% percentile, and 1% low average. The first is self-explanatory. The 1% percentile refers to the lowest 1% framerates. In other words, the game runs higher than that value 99% of the time. The 1% low average defines the average of the 1% percentile. Ergo, it’s the average of the slowest 1% frames.
NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti vs 4080 1440p Benchmarks
QHD, or 1440p, is now the most popular resolution among gamers. Starting with “A Plague Tale”, the GeForce RTX 4080 holds a lead of 31% over the RTX 4070 Ti with a similar lows delta.
Assassins’ Creed Valhalla sees a smaller gap between the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080. The 80-class card is just 14% faster than the 4070 Ti at 1440p.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a well-optimized game that scales well across all hardware. As such, the RTX 4080 is ~31% faster than the 4070 Ti on average.
Dying Light 2 sees a delta of 22% between the two high-end RTX 40 series cards.
As seen in the past, F1 2022 shows less than a 10% difference between the RTX 4070 Ti and 4080.
Ghostwire Tokyo behaves similarly, except the lows are almost identical.
Hitman 3 is roughly 17% faster on the RTX 4080 than the 4070 Ti, with comparable lows.
Hogwarts Legacy didn’t run well at launch, but its issues have been ironed out. The RTX 4080 is 18% faster than the 4070 Ti in this game.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is another well-optimized game where both GPUs average over 200 FPS at 1440p. The RTX 4080 is ~10% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti, as a CPU bottleneck limits the performance.
The Callisto Protocol runs surprisingly well on the RTX 4080, leading the 4070 Ti by nearly 30% at 1440p.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a well-balanced game that allows both GPUs to push 150 FPS. On average, the GeForce RTX 4080 is 18% faster than the 4070 Ti at 1440p.
