NVIDIA Fixes Buggy “High CPU Usage” Driver with HotFix (531.26)

Following AMD’s Adrenalin graphics driver debacle, NVIDIA followed suit, releasing a buggy graphics driver that increased CPU utilization every time you exited a game. The “NVIDIA Container” process would take up to 10% of your CPU’s resources leading to micro stutters in highly intensive scenes. Gamers with top-end CPUs didn’t feel the hit, but mainstream users with midrange or entry-level hardware felt the sting.

Fortunately, NVIDIA quickly released a hotfix that handles the problem. GeForce hotfix display driver version 531.26 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 531.18. It addresses the following issues:

NVIDIA didn’t elaborate on what caused the said problem. It could have been any range of threads taking up resources. In the past, the chipmaker used similar processes to track and record user behavior for bug fixing. You can download the hotfix from the official NVIDIA website here.
