MSI’s all-AMD Alpha gaming laptop is on sale for just $799. Featuring a quad-core AMD Ryzen 7 3750H processor (boost clock up to 4GHz) and a Radeon RX 5500M GPU, you’re basically looking at a Core i5-9300H|GTX 1660 Ti levels of performance for a much lower price.

The MSI Alpha 15 is aimed towards eSports fans with a focus on high frame rate gaming such as CS: GO, League of Legends, PUBG, and Battlefield V. You get a 15″ 1080p 120Hz IPS display with AMD FreeSync support. The Radeon RX 5500M 4GB discrete GPU powering the laptop is based on the new 7nm RDNA architecture and is a notch above the GeForce GTX 1650 in terms of gaming performance.

Although the Ryzen 7 3750H is slightly slower than the Core i3-9300H in gaming workloads, you’ll be GPU bound for the most part so that won’t be a problem. As for storage and memory, you are getting 8GB of DDR4 memory @ 2666MHz and a 512GB NVMe SSD. The former is going to be a problem, but luckily there’s a free DIMM available which you can populate on your own. That should result in a dual-memory config, considerably improving performance.

The laptop has a thickness of 1 inch and weighs 5 pounds. It has a 6-cell (51 Wh) Li-Ion battery and draws a maximum of 180W through an AC adapter. On buying the laptop, you also get two free AAA gaming, namely Resident Evil 3 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, in addition to MSI’s Lootbox pack.
