Microsoft’s Xbox Series S to Reportedly Debut in Late July

According to a report from Digitimes, Microsoft’s Xbox Series X consoles will debut in late July, with chip orders expected to soar in Q3 2020. Keep in mind that this will likely be a soft launch, with MS expected to unveil both the Xbox Series X (Anaconda) as well as the Series S (Lockhart).

Both consoles are going to feature the same 8 core Zen 2 based CPU, but the latter will come with a cut-down RDNA 2 GPU with fewer shaders and lower clocks. Rumors over the past weeks have claimed that Lockhart could cost as low as 0, half as much as the Series X but that appears to be unlikely. (Cymbalta) The most likely scenario is that we’ll get the latter priced at around $500-600 while the former will cost roughly $300. These may be mere speculations but the final prices can’t vary by much.

AMD is reportedly prioritizing the console chips over the upcoming Ryzen 4000 CPUs and the coveted Big Navi GPU. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the PC products are going to be considerably faster than the console parts, especially the next-gen CPUs which feature the upgraded Zen 3 core architecture.
