Microsoft Registers “Xbox Series” Trademark Indicating a Digital-only S Console

Microsoft has registered several properties pertaining to the new Xbox Series branding with the American Patent Office, indicating the impending launch of additional consoles. The most obvious is the Xbox Series S which is expected to be a Digital Only variant of the regular console, similar to the Xbox One S (and the PS5 Digital Edition).

It’s not clear whether the Xbox Series S will be limited to streaming or simply be a diskless version of the XSX, but the former is a possibility. The Mark Drawing code for the new trademark is 4000 and the following description of the registered product makes the streaming theory even more likely:

  • Toys and video games.
  • Software and educational use.
  • Software to record, broadcast and edit content.
