Micro center has stirred up controversy by suggesting that NVIDIA graphics cards are superior to AMD’s offerings, and are more user-friendly when it comes to long-term use. The retailer claimed that AMD graphics cards, although more affordable, require some modification and regular maintenance to run as intended. Interestingly, no details were provided regarding the modification or maintenance that these parts supposedly require. As per MC, NVIDIA graphics cards function much like video game consoles, essentially having a plug-and-play mechanism (not sure what that even means).
Reading the last few lines sort of clears what this is about. Pointing to ray-tracing and DLSS, the retailer believes that GeForce graphics cards offer the highest quality without sacrificing frame rates. While DLSS is something that AMD lacks, the company most certainly does support ray-tracing on its Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards. Furthermore, yes, the driver support has been less than satisfactory for some users, I’ve personally never faced any problems with it as such.

I don’t see why Micro center would place such text on its website without any direct incentive. Quite frankly, looks like a marketing campaign from NVIDIA. Wouldn’t be the first time they pulled something like this, but there’s no way to confirm it. In the end, the CEO and President of MC apologized for the post, stating that it was published without properly vetting the information within. He conceded that AMD graphics cards offer top-of-the-line performance, including ray tracing and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (AMD FSR) for maximum visual performance, as well as easy installation, with no upkeep beyond standard driver updates.
At the end of the day, this just exposes how retailers and commerce sites can skew the competition in one vendor’s favor just with a little financial backing.
