Lenovo’s IdeaPad 5 w/ AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs Retails for $689

Lenovo has joined the ranks of OEMs offering the 15W Ryzen 4000 mobile processors on retail, with an MSRP of just $689. The new IdeaPad 15 featuring the entry-level Ryzen 5 4500U is now available on Lenovo’s web store. (editorialmash.com) It’s a hex-core part lacking SMT with a base and boost clock of 2.30GHz and 4.0GHz, respectively. The graphics responsibilities are handled by the Radeon RX Vega 6 iGPU which has already proven to be a capable option.

Unfortunately, at the moment, none of the high-end Renoir APUs are available, and we’re not sure (if and) when that will change. For a laptop with a 15W SKU, the Lenovo IdeaPad 15 sure is kind of bulky. With a 15.6″ display and a width of 0.78″, it weighs a moderate 1.7 kg. While that isn’t heavy by any means, in a world where Clevo has 2.4 kg notebooks packing a Ryzen 9 3950X, it’s hardly impressive.

In terms of display, you get a standard FHD IPS touchscreen with 300 nits of brightness and narrow bezels. The IdeaPad comes with 8GB of single-channel DDR4 3200MHz (not LPDDR4) soldered memory and 512GB of NVMe based SSD storage. There is a standard HDMI 1.4b as well as a USB Type C port for connecting external displays, and two USB 3.1 ports for other I/O related need.

The laptop has a 3 Cell 57Whr internal battery, and Lenovo promises a battery life of up to 14 hours (idle), with Quick Charge 2.0 makes affairs easier.
