With the concurrent launch of both the 10th generation Intel Comet Lake-H series and the NVIDIA RTX Super mobile GPUs, Lenovo is among the few brands launching updated versions of existing laptops. It’s also supposedly taking advantage of NVIDIA’s Advanced Optimus which enhances the battery life while keeping G-SYNC going.
The Lenovo Legion 7i and the Legion 5i will be replacing the Legion Y740 and Y540 gaming laptop models, with the 7i featuring a 17-inch display and the 5i a 15-inch display.

For some context, G-SYNC has previously had the drawback wherein it needed the discrete-GPU to be connected directly to the display to function effectively, removing the capability of NVIDIA’s Optimus to utilize the iGPU. There was a partial solution involving rebooting the laptop to switch between these modes by using a multiplexer, but was pretty cumbersome and a niche offering. Lenovo will be one of the first manufactures to offer the benefit of dynamic switching of Advanced Optimus, eliminating the reboot requirement.

Both laptops sport the new 45W Comet Lake lineup, but details on the exact models to be offered are not yet specified. On the GPU front, the 15-inch Legion 5i will support up to an NVIDIA RTX 2060 while the larger 17-inch Legion 7i will go all the way up to the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q.
Lenovo has specified some affordable prices with the Legion 5i with RTX 2060 starting at $999 and the Legion 7i with RTX 2070 at $1,199.
