IOI Announced Partnership w/ Intel for Hitman 3: Support for 8+ Core CPUs and Ray-Tracing on Xe GPUs

In a news post, IOI, the studio behind the Hitman franchise has announced a partnership with chipmaker Intel, aimed at optimizing the game for multi-core CPUs. The developer claims that the next game in the series (Hitman 3) will be optimized for high-end “8+ core” CPUs, allowing for higher LODs (Level of Detail) which in turn will result in more on-screen objects such as denser crowds, better physics, and high-quality meshes. The 8+ core part kind of sticks out because there are consumer CPUs already packing as many as 16 cores, most notably the Ryzen 9 5950X and the 3950X. Since Intel’s upcoming Rocket Lake-S processors top out at 8 cores, something tells me the scaling beyond that will be dismal.

Regardless, Hitman 3 will come with Variable Rate Shading (VRS) with tentative ray-tracing support in 2021, potentially for Intel’s upcoming Xe-HPG discrete graphics cards (more exclusivity?)

HITMAN 3 will be released on 20th January 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Stadia and PC (via Epic Games Store).
