Intel’s New Arc A350M GPU is Slower than NVIDIA’s 5-Year-Old GeForce GTX 1050 Ti in 3DMark

Intel’s Arc Alchemist GPUs are going to be rather incompetent if we go by a couple of leaked 3DMark benchmarks. These tests which were conducted on the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro show the performance of the Arc A350M in popular 3D graphics workloads. The A350M is the lowest-end Alchemist mobile GPU featuring 96 XVEs (EUs) or 768 cores. It gets absolutely thrashed by even the slowest previous-gen graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD.

In 3DMark Firestrike, the Intel Arc A350M scores a bit under 6,000 points making it slower than even the five-year-old GeForce GTX 1050 Ti mobile SKU. It’s worth noting that the latter also features 768 shaders and 4GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit bus, putting the two roughly on par in terms of ALU count and memory bandwidth. The Arc A350M still loses by nearly 2,000 points showing that the effective IPC of the 1st Gen Alchemist GPUs is rather on the low side.

The Intel GPU performs better in Timespy but still fails to beat the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti mobile or the GTX 1650 Max-Q decisively. The A350M is faster than the former by just 300 points while losing to the latter by ~400 points.

It’s important to keep in mind that the performance of Intel’s iGPUs and the DG1 (Iris Max) is still respectable in synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark and PCMark. In actual gaming workloads, they suffer from severe frame time issues which makes the whole experience rather miserable. Overall, things don’t look too good for Intel’s 1st Gen Arc graphics cards.
