Intel’s 11th Gen Tiger Lake-H CPUs are a Fair Bit Slower than AMD’s Ryzen 5000 Mobile “Cezanne” Processors

When Intel launched its 11th Gen Tiger Lake-H processors, this was one of the most cited slides from the presentation. Here, you can see the Core i9-11980HK beating the rival Ryzen 9 5900HX APU by nearly 20% in every game. However, as we’ve seen time and again, it’s always recommended to take 1st party benchmarks with a huge grain of salt. The first benchmark of Tiger Lake-H from TomsHardware shows a completely different scenario.

As you can see in the below benchmarks, out of the five benchmarks, the Core i9-11980K is able to beat the Ryzen 9 5800H in only one game (Far Cry New Dawn), and that too by just over 10%. In comparison, Intel’s above slide shows the same SKU being faster than the more powerful Ryzen 9 5900HX by 17%. Going by that assumption, it should be at least 20-25% faster than the 5800H, only no. It’s just 10% faster than the 5800H and should be just around 5% faster than the 5900HX, if at all.

In all the other games, the Ryzen 7 5800H is somewhere between 10-20% faster than the Core i9-11980HK, literally the complete opposite of what Intel claims. Furthermore, the octa-core Tiger Lake-H part is barely faster than the quad-core i7-11375H otherwise known as Tiger Lake-H35.

We’ll leave deciphering the results of this particular observation to you. Regardless, it’s clear that Intel’s marketing has once again been highly misleading, and AMD is the better option in both the desktop and mobile segments for gamers.
